NYU School of Professional Studies Media Talk Series to Focus on “Influence and Influencers: The Changing Face of Content”

NEW YORK, June 8, 2017 – The NYU School of Professional Studies Center for Publishing will host the latest panel in its NYU Media Talk series, “Influence and Influencers: The Changing Face of Content,” on Tuesday, June 13, from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The panelists will discuss who and what influences content in a shifting media world. Among the questions addressed will be whether authenticity and accuracy still matter; who the new arbiters of culture and content are and how to reach them; and what is beyond social media storytelling.

Sarah Ellison, special correspondent for Vanity Fair, will serve as the moderator of the panel. She is a frequent commentator for the magazine’s digital daily, The Hive. She chronicled Rupert Murdoch’s takeover of The Wall Street Journal in her 2010 book, War at The Wall Street Journal: Inside the Struggle to Control an American Business Empire. Previously, she was a reporter for WSJ in Paris, London, and New York, and for Newsweek in Paris.

Featured panelists include:

  • David Carey is president of Hearst Magazines, one of the world’s largest publishers of monthly magazines, with 20 brands in print and digital in the US and close to 300 editions and websites in 31 languages and 78 countries around the world. Previously, Carey was group president at Condé Nast, where he oversaw the company’s media properties targeted to business and executive audiences, and launched the Portfolio brand.
  • Clifford J. Levy is a deputy managing editor at The New York Times, where he oversees digital platforms. He has won two Pulitzer Prizes, as well as three George Polk Awards, the Overseas Press Club Award, and the National Magazine Award for video.
  • Janice Min is a media strategist at Eldridge Industries, the holding company for The Hollywood Reporter, Billboard, Dick Clark Productions, and A24. She previously served as copresident and chief creative officer of The Hollywood Reporter-Billboard Media Group and remains a part owner of THR. An Emmy winner, Min led THR as it garnered two National Magazine Awards for General Excellence in the Special Interest category in 2015 and 2016.
  • Josh Tyrangiel is executive vice president of VICE News and oversees vicenews.com, the weekly documentary series VICE on HBO, and VICE News Tonight. Prior to joining VICE Media, Tyrangiel was chief content officer for Bloomberg Media and was the editor of Bloomberg Businessweek.

The NYU Media Talk panel will take place at the NYU Kimmel Center for University Life, Rosenthal Pavilion, 10th Floor, 60 Washington Square South (between LaGuardia Place & Thompson Street).
