The NYU School of Professional Studies (NYUSPS) Dean’s Graduate Scholars Program recognizes outstanding students within the School of Professional Studies community by awarding a $10,000 scholarship. Identifying the need among NYUSPS students, the School established this annual merit-based scholarship to reward exemplary academic achievement, outstanding service, and committed involvement in the SPS community. The Dean’s Scholars are required to serve as SPS Ambassadors, attend monthly roundtable meetings with the dean, and participate as mentors to high school students in the NYUSPS High School Academy Aspire Program, a college preparatory program for students in the New York/Tri-State area who will be first-generation college students. All Dean’s Scholars are required to be physically present and available to participate in Dean’s Scholars’ events on the NYUSPS campus in New York City over the course of the full academic year (including 8 Saturdays), in addition to evenings during one week in July preceding the academic year (dates to be released in early Spring 2018).

If selected as a Dean’s Scholar, you will:

  • Receive a $10,000 scholarship ($5,000 for Fall 2018; $5,000 for Spring 2019)
  • Join a distinguished group of students representing SPS
  • Make a difference by mentoring a high school student who will be a first generation college student in the NYUSPS High School Academy Aspire Program
  • Be honored with a custom graduation stole and will sit on stage at the SPS graduation ceremony (if you are a Dean’s Scholar the year you graduate)
  • Benefit from the unique relationships you will forge with the Office of the Dean and with the School's leadership

Graduate Scholar Eligibility Requirements*:

  • Full- or part-time NYUSPS graduate student (domestic and international)
  • Minimum 3.85 GPA
  • 12 credits completed at time of application
  • Enrolled in both Fall 2018 and Spring 2019 semesters (students graduating in December 2018 are not eligible)
  • Must be able to participate in the Dean’s Scholars monthly meetings and Aspire Program Weekend Workshops (dates to be released in Spring 2018)

The Dean’s Graduate and Undergraduate Scholars applications will be available in Spring 2018. The application requires two essays, an official transcript, a current resume, two letters of recommendation and your department’s signature to verify your academic good standing. Finalists will be required to attend an in-person interview with the Selection Committee. All NYUSPS students receive a notice via email each spring semester when the application is available.

The majority of departmental awards are open to continuing students after a set number of credits are completed and academic merit in the program is established. Requirements and award amounts vary.

Advisory Board Scholarship

In recognition of student achievement and promise, the Advisory Board Scholarship provides partial tuition support to outstanding students with financial need, who are working toward the completion of their graduate studies at the Center for Global Affairs (CGA). The award is made possible through the exemplary generosity of our advisory board members, many of whom have volunteered at CGA to help us grow and further our mission of creating global citizens since our founding over 10 years ago. 

MSGA Research Fund (RF)

The MSGA Research Fund (RF) will consider grant applications across the board, and will make a minimum of $1,000 available each semester in individual awards of generally up to $200. The RF is intended to support travel and other expenses relating to especially novel or significant thesis/capstone research or to support the costs of registration, travel, and accommodation for participation in conferences and similar events (i.e., presenting a paper, acting as a discussant or the like, not simply attending the event). Applications are reviewed by the divisional dean and the academic chair.

The NYU School of Professional Studies announces scholarships in amounts of approximately $7,500 to $15,000 annually to be awarded to international students on F-1 visas with exceptional academic backgrounds, who meet the admissions requirements of the graduate program in Global Affairs, and who commit to pursuing the MSGA on a full-time basis for a two-year period leading to the completion of the degree. Scholarship awardees will receive the full amount of their award for each of their two years in the graduate program.

To be considered for the scholarship, candidates must submit the complete application for admission to the MS in Global Affairs program by the International Student Early Decision deadline of October 1, 2018 for Spring 2019 candidates and by January 15, 2019 for Fall 2019 candidates.

To apply for the scholarship, candidates must submit the following materials by November 15th for the Spring 2019 semester and March 1, 2019* for the Fall 2019 semester:

  • Completed online scholarship application form
  • Copies of all transcripts provided with your application for admission to the MS in Global Affairs (MSGA) program. These transcripts must demonstrate that you have an exceptional record of academic achievement (3.75 GPA or equivalent and/or professional experience).
  • One letter of recommendation (either professional or academic, separate from the two required recommendation letters for admission to the MSGA program) that explains why you would be an outstanding candidate for this scholarship.
  • Three essay questions of approximately 500 words each answering the following:
    • What career path do you intend to pursue after completing your degree, and how will the MSGA program help you achieve this?
    • Which of the eight program concentrations are of particular interest to you and why?
    • Please explain your financial need. Given that the scholarship is not a full tuition award, how do you plan to finance the remaining tuition and other expenses (housing, travels, books, etc.)?

Please Note: A successful candidate will be required to maintain a 3.5 average throughout the course of two years.

Applications received after the above deadlines may be considered on a rolling basis pending availability of scholarship funds, but priority will be given to those who submit by the deadline.

Hochhauser Family Scholarship

For an entering student in the fall class of the MS in Integrated Marketing program who shows exceptional potential for the field of integrated marketing, based on academic and employment history, as well as need of financial assistance. The scholarship is a $1,000 tuition award for the first fall semester, and the selection is made by the academic chair of the MS in Integrated Marketing program.

The MS in Publishing: Digital and Print Media program offers a number of departmental scholarships that are based on merit and number of credits. You must be enrolled for at least six program credits to be considered for the following awards:

Oscar Dystel Fellowship

The prestigious Oscar Dystel Fellowship is awarded annually to students who have shown a strong commitment to a career in book publishing as demonstrated through course work, internships, and professional experience.

William Randolph Hearst Endowment for Magazine Media Scholarship

The William Randolph Hearst Endowment for Magazine Media Scholarship is awarded each spring to a student who has demonstrated a strong commitment to magazine and digital media through course work, internships, and professional experience.

Deborah Wiley Scholarship

In 2015, the program will award the Deborah Wiley Scholarship to two students who have shown a strong commitment to digital media through course work, internships, and professional experience. These two students also will be hired as Wiley interns for the semester.

The NYU School of Professional Studies Schack Institute of Real Estate has a number of scholarships available to students.

Scholarships for Matriculated Students

To be eligible for the following scholarships, students must have completed nine credits and be fully matriculated as either a part-time or full-time student. Scholarship funds are applied toward tuition only.

Schack Alumni Association "Future Alumni" & the Michael F.X. Waters Scholarships

The NYU School of Professional Studies Schack Institute of Real Estate Master of Science Alumni Association offers substantial support to Schack students pursuing an MS in Real Estate, Real Estate Development, or Construction Management. The Alumni Association awards up to two $5,000 "Future Alumni" Scholarships each spring and fall semester to assist with tuition. An additional writing/research scholarship for $5,000, named in honor of the late Michael F.X. Waters, the first director of academic affairs and clinical associate professor, also is awarded.

The Joan Gordon Scholarship

Joan Gordon, former industry relations director of NYU's Real Estate Institute, played a leading role in expanding the program in property management and leasing as well as developing new programs in investment, finance, and appraisal. The Joan Gordon Scholarship offers substantial support to matriculated master's candidates in Real Estate, Real Estate Development, or Construction Management. This scholarship will go to a deserving student who demonstrates academic excellence and is nearing completion of the program. A $5,000 award will be offered each spring and fall to one qualifying student, and it is to be used towards tuition payment for the final capstone course.

The Commercial Real Estate Women of NY (CREW) Foundation, Merle Gross Ginsberg Scholarships

Founded in 1978, the Association of Real Estate Women Scholarship (AREW) is the real estate industry's longest-running and most consistent supporter of women real estate professionals. The AREW Charitable Fund, a not-for-profit affiliate of AREW, was established in 1989 as part of the Association's ongoing commitment to making a difference in the larger community through charitable activities. AREW offers scholarships each year to matriculated master's candidates in Real Estate, Real Estate Development, or Construction Management. Scholarships are awarded to students who demonstrate academic excellence and financial need.

The AREW Merle Gross-Ginsburg Scholarship Award offers up to $10,000 in scholarships each fall semester. Ms. Gross-Ginsburg was a pioneer in commercial real estate and one of the founders as well as the first president of AREW; Merle also taught at the Schack Institute of Real Estate in its early years and was a member of the REBNY Board of Directors.

The AREW Scholarship, awarded in memory of Ruth A. Agnese, offers up to $4,000 to Schack students each spring semester. Ruth A. Agnese was a past president of AREW who was generous with her time, knowledge, and know-how, and chaired numerous committees and events. She was a leading commercial real estate appraiser, president of her firm, and a past president of the Metropolitan New York Chapter of the Appraisal Institute.

The Leone J. Peters/Cushman and Wakefield Scholarship

The Leone J. Peters/Cushman and Wakefield Scholarship, established in 1989, awards $5,000 to one Schack student each spring semester pursuing an MS in Real Estate, Real Estate Development, or Construction Management. The scholarship will be awarded to a student who demonstrates academic excellence and a current commitment to the program.

New York Women Executives in Real Estate (WX) Scholarship

WX New York Women Executives in Real Estate is an invitation-only association of executive-level women actively engaged in the commercial real estate industry in New York. The mission of WX is to promote the advancement of women in commercial real estate; to enhance public perception of the role of women in the industry; and to promote the highest standards of professionalism, ethics, and integrity in the field. The WX Scholarship awards up to $15,000 each spring to deserving female Schack students pursuing their MS in Real Estate, Real Estate Development, or Construction Management.

After completing at least one semester at the Tisch Center, graduate students may also be considered for the IREFAC Scholarship (Hospitality Industry Studies candidates only), the New York Marriott Marquis Scholarship, the SPS Futures Scholarship, the Laurence Geller Scholarship and the HVS Scholarship. These scholarships vary in amount but can be worth up to $10,000 per academic year. The application process is announced every spring for the following academic year.

The NYU Peace Corps Coverdell Fellowship, for returned Peace Corps Volunteers (RPCVs), consists of a 50 percent tuition scholarship and participation in leadership development programming overseen by the NYU Leadership Initiative. The Coverdell Fellowship award at NYUSPS also includes a book stipend. All NYU Coverdell Fellows must complete an internship at an organization that serves an underserved community in the greater New York City metropolitan area.

Students applying to the NYUSPS MS in Global Affairs, MS in Hospitality Industry Studies, MS in Tourism Management, MS in Professional Writing, or MS in Real Estate are eligible to apply for the fellowship. To apply, RPCVs must:

  • Meet the Peace Corps eligibility requirements.  
  • Complete and submit the NYUSPS application by January 15. In addition to meeting our general admissions criteria, applicants for the fellowship must demonstrate academic excellence and the ability to thrive in a rigorous academic environment. The recommended minimum GPA is 3.50. In addition to academic achievement, applicants must demonstrate professional achievements within their work history.
  • Include a copy of the official "Description of Service" as an attachment in your application.  

Students can also apply for scholarships and fellowships funded by sources unaffiliated with the NYU School of Professional Studies. Eligibility requirements will vary, but typically take into consideration a student's academic achievement and financial need.

Charles B. Rangel International Affairs Program

The Charles B. Rangel International Affairs Program promotes a positive US presence in the world that reflects and respects the strength and diversity of America. The program is a collaborative effort between Howard University and the State Department that seeks to attract and to prepare outstanding young people for careers as diplomats in the Foreign Service of the US Department of State. It seeks individuals who are interested in helping to shape a freer, more secure, and prosperous world through formulating, representing, and implementing US foreign policy. The program encourages the application of members of minority groups historically underrepresented in the Foreign Service and those with financial need. There are two major components to the Rangel Program: an International Affairs Graduate Fellowship Program that provides support for graduate school, professional development, and entry into the US Foreign Service; and an undergraduate International Affairs Summer Enrichment Program that provides undergraduates with the opportunity to enhance their skills, knowledge, and understanding about US foreign policy.

Thomas R. Pickering Graduate Foreign Affairs Fellowship

The Thomas R. Pickering Foreign Affairs Fellowship Programs provide funding to participants as they are prepared academically and professionally to enter the United States Department of State Foreign Service. Women, members of minority groups historically underrepresented in the Foreign Service, and students with financial need are encouraged to apply.

The Pickering Foreign Affairs Fellowship Programs seek to recruit talented students in academic programs relevant to international affairs, political and economic analysis, administration, management, and science policy. The goal is to attract outstanding students from all ethnic, racial, and social backgrounds who have an interest in pursuing a Foreign Service career in the US Department of State. The programs develop a source of trained men and women from academic disciplines representing the skill needs of the State Department, who are dedicated to representing America's interests abroad.

The Harry R. Truman Scholarship Program

The Harry S. Truman Scholarship provides $30,000 to college juniors planning to attend graduate school in preparation for careers in public service. Awardees also receive leadership training, graduate school counseling, preferential admission to premier graduate institutions, and internship opportunities with federal agencies. A range of 55 to 65 scholarships are awarded to juniors from across the country.
